New Retailers Expanding in Jax

Caliber Collision is expected to open 6 locations in NE FLA this year. According to an article by Karen Brune Mathis, “The company operates 353 repair centers in 13 states. The closest of its 20 Florida locations is in Palm Coast.” The locations are typically 17,000 to 20,000 square feet and employ roughly 17-20 people. The first two locations are on pace to open in January (Beach Blvd between Hodges and Kernan, and Merrill and I-295), with additional locations in various stages of planning and permitting.

Noodles and Company is planning to open their first Jacksonville area store in April, in the former Crispers location at the St. Johns Town Center. The former Crispers is 2,700 square feet and the project is projected to cost about $115K. The CO based chain currently operates 488 stores in 35 states. The local franchisee owner’s agreement calls for him to open 11 stores between Duval, St. Johns and Nassau counties. The stores are usually about 3,000 square feet and employ about 30 people. Pet Supplies Plus is entering the Jacksonville market as part of a major 2016 expansion plan, with its first area store set to open in Atlantic Beach, and plans to open 5-7 more stores in the next 5 years in the area. The pet store is the third largest in the country (behind PetCo and PetSmart), yet fills a niche as more of a “neighborhood pet store”, as opposed to its competitors, who are considered big box retailers. The average Pet Supplies Plus store is 7-10K square feet, large enough to carry a wide assortment of product, but small enough to not be overwhelming and convenient.
