Draft of Report on Economic Development Reccomendations for Lenny Curry

Karen Brune Mathis with The Daily Record updates readers about a rough draft of a report on recommendations for economic development for the city, that is being put together by former mayor John Delaney, who is leading newly elected mayor Lenny Curry’s economic development subcommittee. The report includes the following recommendations to the new mayor:

  • Plan to develop or expand a Convention Center
  • Maintain current economic development structure (including Office of Economic Development, Downtown Investment Authority, Office of Sports and Entertainment and JAX Chamber)
  • Create a “scoring” system to allow the city to measure ROI of companies seeking incentives from the city, and develop a way to monitor the success of incentives that are granted
  • Improve wages and focus on neighborhoods in decline
  • Consider public-investment policies that do the most good
  • Create an annual “report card” for the city, measuring key statistics such as GDP, population, tourism, wages, etc…
  • Create a “brand identity” for the city
  • Find ways to speed up the permitting and regulatory review process
  • Asset mapping of city owned assets
