GE Oil & Gas on Westside Deal Discussed at NAIOP Meeting
Karen Brune Mathis of The JAX Daily Record discusses the genesis and the future of the 510k SF (and potentially 1MSF) GE Oil & Gas operation at AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center on the city’s far west side. GE will make regulators and control valves for use in the oil and gas industry worldwide. Kent Baker, the site leader for the GE operation, says the company chose the location for three primary reasons: 1) port access; 2) transportation hub; and, 3) a rich talent pool because of area universities and the military. GE already employs about 500 here in its GE Engine Services/Unison that it bought in 2002; the new GE Oil & Gas manufacturing plant will hire another 500 over the next three years.
